Edward Taylor’s â€Å"Meditation Six† uses a coin-based conceit to explore the ambivalence of the persona; using the coin, Taylor describes his spiritual value to God in material terms. The first stanza reflects an uncertainty within Taylor about his worth to God. He equates himself to gold, asking if he is â€Å"thy gold† (1) or merely a vessel for God’s wealth—the congregation. The speaker worries he may only appear to be worthful to God, but he is worthless underneath and â€Å"brass in heart,† alluding to the Brazen Serpent of the Bible. Working through his ambivalence, the speaker compares the impression of the grace of God to the stamp on a coin, and he asks if God has left such an impression on him, stamping value onto worthless metal. Taylor writes that he is â€Å"a golden angel† in God’s hand, meaning he is valuable to God, which ends his ambivalence as he concludes that he is worthful as a man. In the final stanza, th e speaker asks God to make his soul the plate, a blank coin, onto which God stamps value with his â€Å"superscription in a holy style† (16). The speaker then becomes a coin with value to God, part of God’s hoard, whereby Taylor acknowledges that he is one of many. A surrender ends the conceit and poem, the speaker asks if he may be an angel, period slang for an English coin, in God’s eyes and if God may be his Lord. 3. The Meaning of Heart of Darkness in the Post-Colonial Climate Since its publication in 1899, Joseph Conrad’s Heart of Darkness has rarely been disputed on the basis of its literary merits; in fact, it was long seen as one of the great novels of the burgeoning modern era, a sort of bridge between the values and storytelling styles of the waning Victorian period and those of the modern era (Gatten), and regarded a high-ranking space amidst the great literature of the century, if not the millennia (Mitchell 20). Conrad’s literary masterpiece manages references to other great literature, universal themes which cut to the heart of philosophical questions of the innate goodness or evil of man, and historical references such as the†¦show more content†¦If Conrad’s intention was to foster debate – or, indeed, disgust –concerning European colonialism, it is ironic that his novel, in the post-colonial era of today, has become the centerpiece of heated debate about the allegedly racist nature of its language and the greater implications of his view of race in light of the fall of colonialism and what most consider a great awakening of sorts in areas of the West’s views on race (Kuchta 160). That is, it is ironic that Conrad’s supposedly anti-colonialist work has earned the distinction of a reputation as representative, in modern academic circles, of a grossly outdated (not to say politically incorrect, in the extreme), highly colonialist and racist mentality. In fact, a cursory search of internet and other resources in today’s era is unlikely to produce many, if any, writings on Conrad and Heart of Darkness that are devoid of mention or focus upon the fixation of race and racism of which Conrad is accused. In those times, royalty was brought to the king and he was believed to have to power to heal through a touching motion. Faith is a way of healing, a treatment of medicine with the efficient power of prayer and hope. Praying for healing power, from the healing hand of God is very important in the process of Faith Healing. Prayer holds importance in all religions other than Christianity. The power of prayer is unstoppable, it has the rower to seek and find what is in Gods plan for an individuals life. Having the faith to ask God to be healed, and believing in Him that He will answer, and respond to His request is an example of having faith. That is an experience pastors go through each day in the halls of hospitals. One of the roles of being a pastor is visiting church members in the hospital. Some pastors go from door to door on top of only visiting church members. They make several trips to hospitals each week, putting many miles on their vehicles, because of the care they have for their church members. There are also pastors that go to every patients room in the hospital to share the gospel and pray with them. In the Islamic religion, praying is a central element that is practiced and worshiped. The folks of this religion have five times a day that they pray. In the book of Quern, it expresses how important prayer is to Islamic people.
